Mother Charged With Murder After Toddler Found Dead In Pond

The mother is also being charged on suspicion of first-degree cruelty to children.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The mother of a 1-year-old is being charged on suspicion of murder after the child was found dead in a Concourse Parkway pond, Sandy Springs Police said.

Police said they responded to a disturbance call around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, when they found the mother, Asia Calabrese-Lewis, 24, in the Concourse parking deck "having some type of episode."

The child's father arrived and asked about the infant's whereabouts. Calabrese-Lewis told him the baby was dead in a pool, according to police.

After first responders searched all nearby pools and other water bodies, police said the child, identified as Nirvana Oliver, was found in a pond.

Oliver was pronounced dead at the Children's Hospital of Atlanta, police said.

Calabrese-Lewis was charged on suspicion of first-degree cruelty to children and felony murder, police said. She was taken to the Fulton County Jail.
