Newnan Woman Sentenced On Hit-And-Run Charges

Dominique Houston was convicted in the April 2021 death of Michael Farmer and his dog, Bruce.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Dominique Houston was sentenced to 15 years last week after being charged with two counts of hit-and-run, according to the Sandy Springs Police Department.

She must serve 10 years in jail and five years on probation, police said Wednesday.

Houston, of Newnan, was arrested after police say she killed a pedestrian and his dog on April 25, 2021. She was 38-years-old at the time.

Police said she was charged with following too closely, two counts of hit-and-run, first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving.

Sandy Springs officers responded to Hammond Drive near Glenridge Drive around 8 p.m., where they said a 25-year-old man had been hit while walking his dog.

Authorities identified the man as Michael Farmer, of Sandy Springs, and his dog as a Catahoula named Bruce.

The suspect was driving a 2020 white Chevy Malibu and was traveling eastbound while fleeing the scene, police said.

Police said the suspect hit Farmer and his dog while attempting to flee from another hit-and-run near Roswell Road and Interstate 285.

Fox 5 Atlanta previously reported Houston had been initially released on a signature bond but was re-arrested on more charges.

Houston was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of speeding 68 mph in a 35, two counts of failure to obey traffic control devices, possession of Schedule 1 narcotics and cruelty to animals, the outlet previously reported.
