North Springs Launches Free Supplemental College Counseling

North Springs juniors and their families benefit from this extra guidance.

North Springs High School is offering supplemental, comprehensive, free college counseling designed to support juniors as they embark on the college application process. The School Governance Council (SGC) is funding this exclusive program and Spartan Nation, North Spring’s Parent Teacher Organization/Foundation is facilitating the series of information sessions for parents and students. Expert college counselor Kate Harmer of Catalyst College Counseling is leading virtual and in-person sessions to equip students and their families with essential success tools.

This initiative supplements the ongoing support provided by North Springs’ dedicated school counselors and visiting college representatives, ensuring students access a wide range of resources as they navigate the admissions process.

  • Crafting compelling college essays
  • Navigating the Common Application
  • Understanding financial aid and scholarships

This program underscores North Springs’ commitment to empowering students with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the college admissions process. North Springs principal, Scott Hanson noted, “At North Springs, we take pride in providing exceptional opportunities that set our students up for success. In addition to our renowned magnet programs and career pathways, this supplemental college advising program gives our juniors and their families expert guidance to navigate the application process with confidence.”

Participants have the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights to help them confidently navigate the college application process. To accommodate families' diverse schedules, sessions are available in both virtual formats and in-person sessions at North Springs High School Media Center. Successful sessions launched on March 25th, and remaining sessions include:

  • April 16: Noon (virtual) & 6:30 PM (in-person)
  • May 7: Noon (virtual) & 6:30 PM (in-person)

Exclusive One-on-One Advising

Juniors are invited to schedule personalized 15-minute consultations with Harmer to discuss their individual college plans and aspirations. All juniors received a SignUpGenius link, allowing them to secure their appointments. Jennifer Lott, President of Spartan Nation and a member of the School Governance Council, explained, “As parents, we know how overwhelming the college application process can be, which is why we’re excited to offer these expert-led sessions at no cost to our families. We hope students and parents take full advantage of these resources to make informed decisions about their future.”
