Police K9, Murder Suspect Dead After Standoff: Reports
Sandy Springs police had Abernathy Road shut down Friday so a police K9 could be taken to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital, where the dog died.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Abernathy Road was shut down Friday afternoon after a Georgia State Patrol K9 was shot in the line of duty, Sandy Springs police said.
Police said they closed the road down so GSP could land its helicopter and get the K9 to the emergency vet.

According to media reports, the dog, whose name was Figo, died at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Sandy Springs.
11Alive reported the police dog was shot while law enforcement responded to a scene near Flat Shoals and Riverdale roads in Clayton County.

The outlet reported a GSP vechicle had been involved in a wreck at the scene.
Fox 5 Atlanta reported police told the outlet they were attempting to arrest a murder suspect.
According to media reports, a standoff ensued and ended with the suspect dead.
The scene was near West Clayton Elementary School.
