Riverwood Culinary Arts Department Sells Record Number of Holiday Pies

The department sold holiday pies and more than doubled sales.

From Riverwood International Charter School: The Riverwood Culinary Arts Department sold holiday pies again this fall and more than doubled their sales. Thanks to the community’s support, sales of the student-made pumpkin, chocolate, and apple crumb pies skyrocketed from 154 last year to over 400 this year.

Chef Elissa Oliver joined the Raider faculty four years ago and began the wildly successful holiday pie fundraiser three years ago. Not only does every student in the Culinary Arts program contribute to the pie baking process, but each student will benefit from the new equipment and programs the profits will fund. The Culinary Arts program currently has approximately 190 students in grades 9-12. In addition to the pie baking project, students will have the opportunity to take part in local, state, and even national competitions.

Coming up in December, students are catering a luncheon of 500 attendees for the Fulton County Schools Superintendent Jeff Rose. Additionally, advanced students will sit for the Servsafe exam in the spring to earn food industry certification.
