Riverwood Students Win Second Place at SkillsUSA Georgia Conference

Riverwood International Charter School congratulates Hunter Gordon and Jonathan Orr for their newscast on the Canadian Oil Sands Pipeline.

From Riverwood International Charter School: Two Riverwood International Charter School students won Second Place in Audio Radio Production at the 2017 SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference. Congratulations to Hunter Gordon and Jonathan Orr for their prize-winning newscast on the Canadian Oil Sands Pipeline. Gordon and Orr had to create a three-minute newscast, complete with a 15-second commercial, sound effects, and music. Their highly technical segment also had to include interviews with three people: a knowledgeable source, an average citizen, and a student. Dr. J.C. Futrell is the Raider SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor.

This year’s SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference was from March 25-27, at the Georgia International Convention Center. SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit student organization that has developed more than 10 million workers through active partnerships between employers and educators. SkillsUSA's mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible citizens. At the heart of this mission are SkillsUSA's core values: integrity, responsibility, citizenship, service, and respect. SkillsUSA Georgia focuses on serving high school students involved in Architecture, Construction, Communication, Cosmetology, Public Safety, and Transportation pathways.
