Sandy Springs Rotary Club Hosts Annual Public Safety Dinners
All police, fire and EMS employees in Sandy Springs had the chance to stop by for dinner.

Sandy Springs, Georgia, November 1, 2016 – “It’s an opportunity to thank City of Sandy Springs’ fire, EMS and police employees for all they do, plus it’s great fun to spend time at the firehouse,” said Sally Wyeth, a member of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs, who was one of many Rotarians, along with Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Interact Club and North Atlanta Rotaract Club members that joined the crowd over three nights of dinners at Firehouse #2, located off Johnson Ferry Road at Sandy Springs Circle.
Each year, the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs coordinates three nights of dinners at Firehouse #2 so that all shifts of police, fire and EMS employees from all firehouses in Sandy Springs can have the chance to stop by for dinner. For the first time this year, a luncheon was added at the Sandy Springs Police headquarters to include as many police department employees who might otherwise not be able to come to dinner.

The meals are donated by community-spirited restaurants and caterers, and large enough to serve at least 70 people per night. Breadwinner Café donated lunch at the Sandy Springs Police Department on October 20, 2016. Brooklyn Café donated menu favorite Jack’s Creole Chicken, Sausage and Rice for Public Service Dinner #1 on October 25, 2016. Carl’s Café Catering donated his famous Bourbon Chicken with sides for Dinner #2 on October 26, 2016, and Ippolito’s (Sandy Springs) donated a full Italian meal for Dinner #3 on October 27, 2016. Fulton County School Board member, Julia Bernath, a member of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs and the coordinator of this year’s Public Service Dinners, noted that there was plenty of food for everyone, even some leftovers that could be enjoyed by changing shifts. “It’s a wonderful series of dinners that bring people together for conversation, a meal and sharing what it is like to be fire, EMS and police professionals. It’s not uncommon for the alarm to go off in the middle of the dinner with the firehouse clearing out to respond to the emergency,” said Sally Wyeth, who added that “the fire and EMS crews then may return and finish their dinner, with a new crew coming in during the meantime. It’s a lively place, full of life-saving equipment and personnel.”
