Sandy Springs Police Combat Catalytic Converter Thefts
The police department announced Tuesday it will partner with auto retailers to help Sandy Springs residents.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA – The Sandy Springs Police Department is partnering with local auto retailers to combat catalytic converter thefts, the department announced Tuesday.
Sandy Springs Police is teaming up with Advanced Auto Parts, Pep Boys and True Automotive to tackle what authorities called a nationwide problem.
"Thieves steal the catalytic converters and sell them for quick, easy cash, leaving the car owner with a big repair bill," police said in a news release.

According to authorities, Sandy Springs residents can take their cars to Pep Boys, 6521 Roswell Road, or True Automotive, 6569 Roswell Road, to have part of their VIN etched into their catalytic converters.
Advanced Auto Parts will then take the etching and highlight it using high temperature and flame proof paint, police said.

Residents who are interested are asked to call Pep Boys or True Automotive to schedule appointments. The service is free, police said.
