Man In Body Armor Shot By Sandy Springs Police
The man pointed a handgun at officers when he was shot and struck in his body armor, police said.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A 27-year-old Sandy Springs man who pointed a gun at police was injured Tuesday after being shot and struck in an armored vest he was wearing, authorities said.
The shooting happened in the 7600 block of Roswell Road, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. On Tuesday, Sandy Springs asked residents to steer clear of the area due to a heavy police presence.
The GBI said Sandy Springs officers were near the Victoria Heights apartments around 3:30 p.m. conducting a drug investigation.

When officers knocked on an apartment door, an armed man stepped out of the apartment and pointed a handgun at officers, the GBI said. The man was wearing an armored vest.
Two officers then shot at the man, who went inside the apartment. When officers called for him to come out of the home, he eventually complied and came out of the apartment with a woman.

The GBI said officers did not believe they had shot the man and continued their investigation. Once they realized he had been shot in the vest, they asked the GBI to investigate the shooting.
The GBI said the man sustained minor injuries in the shooting. No officers were injured in the shooting.
The man was wanted on active warrants, the GBI said, though the nature of the warrants is unknown. The woman was detained for unknown reasons.
This is the 55th shooting involving an officer the GBI has been asked to investigate this year.
