Some I-285 Lanes Reopen In Sandy Springs After Bridge Crash

Evaluations are underway at Mt. Vernon Highway, which remained closed Thursday.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA—A Wednesday night inspection showed the Mt. Vernon bridge sustained damage to its support beams after a tractor-trailer hit it in the afternoon hours near Riverside Drive, Sandy Springs city officials said.

According to the city, four lanes on Interstate 285 west have been reopened; however, officials have not decided when they will reopen Mt. Vernon Highway as it is still being evaluated.

The city said the bridge was being "reinforced to protect from hidden falling debris."

"Inside lanes of I-285 that are currently closed are anticipated to open late next week, which should reduce the amount of traffic on surface streets," city officials said in a Facebook post.

There were no injuries in the crash, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Police told the outlet Wednesday that traffic would be impacted into DeKalb County.
