Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. 19-year-old Cobb County Jail inmate Augustus Green died over the weekend by what appears to be suicide, according to the sheriff's office. Green was awaiting trial on various charges and was being held in a "standard cell," not under close observation. According to the sheriff's office, they have notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Cobb Medical Examiner’s office will be determining Green’s official cause of death. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. On Wednesday, Jun. 28, a public meeting will take place to determine how Cobb County should use the $989.45 it received in interest income from a Justice Assistance Grant program. The county has proposed an allocation of the money to the domestic violence survivor organization LiveSAFE Resources, Inc. The public meeting will take place at the Cobb County CDBG Program Office at 11:00 a.m., but citizens can also direct comments to the Cobb County CDBG Program Office via email. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. With plans to expand and relocate the Cumberland transfer center, Cobb County is seeking public thoughts and opinions about a new location for the center. Answer questions about your preferred location if the center were to move, transit center amenities you'd like to see, design preferences, and more to provide input for the county as it makes decisions. You can take the survey here. (Cobb County, GA via Twitter)
