Fire Station No. 5 Grand Opening Ceremony Saturday

Smyrna's newest fire station will serve the city's southwest residents.

Smyrna residents are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the city’s newest fire station. Smyrna Fire Chief Jason Lanyon said that Fire Station No. 5 began running calls Monday afternoon.

The grand opening ceremony is Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. The new fire station is located at 750 Cooper Lake Road, just south of East West Connector. Attendees are encouraged to carpool as parking is limited.

The $1.4 million project was funded by a federal stimulus grant, but the city is contributing $354,4333 to the construction. The new fire station will serve Smyrna’s southwest residents who were previously serviced by Fire Station No. 4 on South Cobb Drive. This will reduce response time to an area where residents sometimes have to wait 14 minutes for emergency service, said Smyrna Deputy Fire Chief Roy Acree earlier this year.
