GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting In Cobb County

The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting after a Cobb man was shot and killed outside his Heritage Lakes Court home.

COBB COUNTY, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate an officer-involved shooting that took place over the weekend in Cobb County.

The Cobb County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Saturday after one man was shot and killed. A resident at Heritage Lakes Court in Mableton called 911 to report an armed man who was shooting at family members, according to investigators.

No officers were injured during the incident.

At 11:38 a.m. officers received the call and arrived on the scene. The man, later identified as 41-year-old Cesar Anthony Pena was accused of shooting a firearm at family members. Officers heard gunshots inside the home, investigators said.

The SWAT team responded to the scene and at one point, Pena stepped outside onto the front porch with a shotgun, investigators said. Two officers shot Pena and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the CobbCounty District Attorney’s Office for review.
