Suspect Injured In Hostage Incident, Police Shootout In Lithonia

When officers responded to a person being held against their will, police say they exchanged gunfire with the suspect in Lithonia.

LITHONIA, GA — A suspect was critically injured during a shootout with officers and an incident involving a person being held against their will early Friday morning in the 7900 block of Errol Drive, DeKalb County Police said.

Police released little details but said the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect, and police said gunfire was exchanged.

The suspect was hit and injured, later being taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. The shooting did not injure officers, police said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the probe in the case at the request of police.
