The list highlights how Central stacks up against nearby powers like Libertyville, Stevenson, and Vernon Hills, giving local fans a clear snapshot of midseason momentum.
   

• College of Lake County receives largest gift in its history to support student success (audacy.com) — A record-setting $6.065 million gift is coming to the College of Lake County’s Grayslake-based system to help more students stay in school and graduate with less debt. The donation from Schreiber Philanthropy will expand scholarships, emergency aid for essentials like food and housing, and student support services, with an estimated 60 students a year able to earn debt-free associate degrees.
   

• Gurnee firefighters rescue 2 cats, quickly extinguish fire in basement of Gages Lake home (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Grayslake-area residents may notice extra fire activity after the Grayslake Fire Protection District assisted Gurnee firefighters with a basement blaze in nearby Gages Lake, where four residents escaped safely. Crews quickly contained the fire, rescued two cats, kept the home habitable, and are still investigating the cause.
