LISLE, IL — Morton Arboretum's ongoing efforts to conserve oak trees recently got an extra boost of support via a $100,000 grant from Nicor gas. The grant comes amid the arboretum's Oaktober event, which prioritizes outreach and education to teach residents about the significance of oak trees.

“With this gift from Nicor Gas, we will be able to improve the health of native oak populations, along with a wide range of other native trees and shrubs,” Lydia Scott, director of Morton Arboretum's Chicago Region Trees Initiative, said in a statement.

In July, Nicor donated $200,000 to support the Chicago Region Trees Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to enrich the greater Chicago area by planting hundreds of trees over a five-year period.
