PALATINE, IL — The two 16-year-old boys who were shot and killed last week in Palatines were targeted in what authorities are characterizing as a gang-related shooting, police said on Friday.

Police said that although an apparent suspect vehicle has been located and recovered by Palatine Police, no suspects are in custody and an investigation into the incident continues.

The two 16-year-olds were found in the 1800 block of Green Lane North just after 10 a.m. on Sept. 15 and both had sustained life-threatening injuries due to gunshot wounds, police said last week. One of the victims died at the scene, police said, while the other was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he later died.
