5 Asian Restaurants Get Initial OK From Palatine Zoning Board

The proposed eateries still need final approval from the Village Board.

PALATINE, IL — Asian food lovers could soon have a few more dining options in Palatine. Special-use permits were recommended earlier this week for five new restaurants that will feature Japanese and Chinese dishes on their menus, according to the Daily Herald.

The proposed restaurants would be located in a close 4-mile stretch around the village and would include spots in Century Plaza Center and Palatine Centre, the report stated. Although the permits were recommended by the board of zoning appeals Tuesday, Aug. 28, the Village Board still needs to give its OK when the locations are discussed at the Sept. 17 meeting, the report added.

Here's a look at the possible restaurants and the cuisine they could serve once open, according to the Herald:

  • Dream Place (1280 E. Dundee Road): Replacing India Bhawan, which closed last year, the 10,000-square-foot restaurant will include a bar and party area and will offer a mix of traditional and modern Chinese dishes, such as steamed edamame and scallion pancake rolls.
  • Fortune Noodles (Century Plaza Center, Northwest Highway): The eatery's owner also owns the shopping center and Portofino's Woodfire Pizza and Pasta, and he plans to open his gourmet Chinese spot in the old home of True Woods Cabinetry. Egg rolls, chop suey and Mongolian beef are proposed menu items.
  • Takumi Japanese Homemade Curry (Palatine Centre, Northwest Highway): Like the name suggests, this restaurant will feature a variety of curries.
  • Tonkotsu Ramen Benkei Japan (Palatine Centre, Northwest Highway): Creamy pork and vegetable soups will be the centerpiece of this restaurant.
  • Vegiita USA (Palatine Centre, Northwest Highway): A secret garlic soy sauce will be served with sutadon, a Japanese pork dish.
