Board of Review appeals open in Palatine Township

Palatine Township is open for Board of Review property tax appeals through November 7th for the 2024 tax year.

Palatine Township is open for Board of Review property tax appeals through November 7th for the 2024 tax year. Residents of the Township can file an appeal at a Board of Review seminar on October 30th, at the Township Assessor’s office or directly with Board of Review for the taxes on their home.

“There are a number of ways you can file an appeal at the Township,” said Bill Pohlman, Palatine Township Assessor. “You can attend our joint seminar with the Board of Review on October 30th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Patriot Room at the Township where members of the Board of Review will help you file an appeal. If you cannot attend the seminar, you can email us or fill out a form at our office. If you have a difficult appeal, you can schedule an appointment and meet with our staff.”

The Township has forms outside their front door and at the front desk. Residents can also appeal by sending an email to appeals@palatinetownship-il.gov with their name, address, phone number, PIN and their email address. Appeals filed with a form or by email will be submitted to Cook County. Residents who want to file directly with Board of Review should go to Appeals.CookCountyBoardofReview.com.

Local taxing bodies determine the amount of a tax bill. The school district, village, library, township among others all request funds in what is called a levy for their annual budgets. Homes are assessed by size, construction and similarities to other homes in the community. In Cook County, homes are assessed every three years and the property tax is based on the results in conjunction with the levy from the taxing bodies.

Residents can appeal their property taxes during a specified month twice a year with the Township or the County. The Township is now in the second round of appeals with the Board of Review. No matter the result, residents can appeal during both appeal periods.
