Cabbie Admits To Sex Abuse After Luring Victim With 'Pokémon Go'

The Palatine man was sentenced to 6 years in prison as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

PALATINE, IL — A Palatine cabbie admitted to sexually abusing an intoxicated woman after using "Pokémon Go" to lure the then-25-year-old victim into his vehicle. Muhammad Mahmood, 41, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to six years in prison, the Daily Herald reports.

The prison sentence was part of a plea deal between prosecutors and Mahmood, who was credited with 533 days of jail time, the report stated. He also was fined $399 and must register as a sex offender, the report added.

The incident happened early July 23, 2016, when the woman hired Mahmood's cab to take her home from a village bar. According to prosecutors, Mahmood asked the victim if she played the mobile game "Pokémon Go" before driving to Vokening Lake in Schaumburg, where he said a good PokeStop was at.

The victim was left in the lake's parking lot, and she eventually called her sister, who alerted 911.

Mahmood was arrested March 21, 2017, after DNA found on the woman matched the cab driver's. He had been required to give his DNA as part of a separate 2016 conviction for aggravated battery in Lake County.

Originally, Mahmood was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. He was held on $2.5 million bail, and he could have faced 12 to 60 years in prison if convicted on all the initial counts.
