District 211 To Have Virtual Graduations Amid Coronavirus Battle
District 211 officials are looking into possible live gathering dates for either June or July — if allowed by public health guidelines.
PALATINE, IL — In a Tuesday afternoon video, Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 Superintendent Dan Cates informed students and parents of the district's decision regarding upcoming graduation ceremonies for Conant, Fremd, Hoffman Estates, Palatine and Schaumburg high schools. According to the Daily Herald, Cates announced they will move forward with virtual graduation ceremonies for the district's five schools on their originally scheduled commencement dates. The superintended also spoke on the results of a survey which got responses from about 2,800 students and 1,900 parents, and results showed that a live graduation ceremony later in the summer was strongly favored, the news report added.
While district officials continue looking into possible live gathering dates for either June or July — if allowed by public health guidelines — Cates said the virtual ceremonies option was chosen in case this is the only chance to recognize the senior class of 2020.
