Know Your Rights: Palatine Police Offer Training For Renters

PALATINE, IL -- Are you a renter in Palatine? Interested in learning about your rights?

Local authorities are offering a Police Department Tenant Training Program next month to educate participants about village ordinances that may affect them, landlord-tenant agreements and rights, federal Fair Housing laws, and how to successfully mitigate common rental problems.

The two-hour session is set for 1 p.m. on March 10 at the Palatine Police Department, 595 N Hicks Rd North Hicks Road.

Because seats for the course are limited, walk-ins will not be permitted and only two household members can attend, one of whom must be the primary lease holder.

Those wanting to participate must:

  • Currently live in rental property in Palatine (Incorporated areas only);
  • Be listed as a primary lease holder; and
  • Be at least 18 years old.

Children will not be allowed to join the session or wait unsupervised in the police station lobby, officials said.
