Loaded Glock Seized After Stop, Foot Chase With Gang Member: Cops

A high-capacity magazine also was found with the handgun during the weekend incident, according to Palatine police.

PALATINE, IL — A self-admitted gang member faces weapons charges after a loaded handgun with an extended, high-capacity magazine was discovered during a traffic stop over the weekend that also involved a brief foot chase, according to Palatine police. Torrey D. White, 26, of the 14700 block of Indiana Avenue in Dolton, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, as well as various traffic offenses, police said in a statement Tuesday.

A uniformed Palatine police officer tried to pull over White at around 11 p.m. Saturday, June 23, after witnessing him driving recklessly and committing other traffic offenses in the 1600 block of North Baldwin Road, according to authorities. White continued driving his Volkswagen Passat for a short distance before eventually stopping, police said.

Once he stopped the car, White fled on foot from the officer, who ordered White to stop, police said. The officer finally apprehended White after a brief foot pursuit, according to authorities.

A search of the Passat uncovered a loaded .40-caliber Glock pistol with an extended, high-capacity magazine holding 19 rounds, including a round in the gun's chamber, police said. A background check on the pistol revealed that the weapon had been reported stolen in Chicago in 2017, according to authorities.

White was released on a $20,000 I-Bond, which only needed his signature. He then was assigned mandatory electronic monitoring until his next court date, which is July 20.
