Palatine Patch Hero Nominated For 'Stupendous Work' In Community

PALATINE, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

A Palatine resident named Steven nominated Chandini Duvvuri, also from Palatine, as a local Patch hero. Here's what Steven said in his submission:

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored? President of CHICAGO UNITED COMMUNITY” was born on March 10, 2020 with an idea to extend a hand to the community, it is an initiative step taken by Chandini Duvvuri and many more like minded people have joined the group - to help the community during COVID-19 pandemic crisis. CHICAGO UNITED Community consists of more than 150 volunteers who has a zeal to make a change in someone’s life who are also part of different national and local community organizations, including community leaders, entrepreneurs, physicians and many more people with expertise in various areas.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?: Here are a few metrics of stupendous work that we want to share with you: Whether it is sewing masks for our overworked hospitals and much respected medical fraternity, delivering food, groceries and pharmacy shopping to our dear home bound seniors and vulnerable individuals and families, conducting virtual conferences with the physicians on Covid-19 pandemic, conducting online academic and extra curricular sessions for kids, art, public speaking, SAT/ ACT etc., conducting online informative, immigration, health, wellness, spiritual and entertainment sessions for adults, assisting international and local students with their immediate needs and accommodations,delivered 20,000 gloves, more than 5000 Surgical Masks, 3000 plus KN95, more than 5000 cloth masks to senior homes, frontline staff, hospitals, school districts, Groot employees, temples, police stations, fire dept. and also to individuals in the community. - distributed more than 100 handmade face shields, food deliveries to senior citizens in Kane , cook, lake and DuPage counties, distributed non perishable food items to DuPage senior council, Prideroc - African American shelter, food pantries; Wings- women’s shelter and snacks to homeless shelters, medical advice and prescription refills to visitors in the country, fundraised to help all the temple priests, help the hourly/part time workers in restaurants, Uber drivers, etc.
