Palatine's White House Inn Closing After 85 Years

The popular pub opened in 1933, but it appears it will be shutting down later this month.

PALATINE, IL — When the White House Inn opened in Palatine, Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, the Golden Gate Bridge was still under construction, and most importantly, Prohibition had just ended. Now, it appears the popular Palatine pub will be closing its doors later this month after 85 years in business.

The White House Inn, 801 W. Palatine Road, is set to stop operating June 30, according to the Daily Herald. That's the expiration date for the bar's liquor license, the longest-standing of its kind in Palatine, the report added.

The license isn't being renewed because of challenges running the bar and the health of its current owner, George Brzostowski, 88, the report stated. The Brzostowski has owned and operated the White House Inn since it opened in December 1933, the report added.

A possibility does exist for the bar to reopen, however. If Brzostowski's health improves and he returns to his home over the White House Inn, the tavern might try to secure a new liquor license if the village waives requiring the business to make building upgrades, the Herald reports.
