DUI Crash In St. Charles Damages Electric Poles and Business

The reported DUI crash impacted power for a bit due to the power box being hit, but was restored by the St. Charles Electric Department.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A Romeoville man is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol after a car he was driving reportedly left the roadway and crashed into a business building in the 400 block of E. Main Street after hitting a traffic light and electrical box, the St. Charles Police Department said in a release. The police department and St. Charles Fire Department responded to a report at the address at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday, and found out a 2019 Kia was headed westbound on E. Main Street in the 500 block, crossed over the east bound lanes and went off the road, hit a traffic light on the southeast corner of E. Main Street and S. 5th Avenue, the release said. The car then continued westbound through the intersection and struck a City of St. Charles electric box at the southwest corner of E. Main St. and S. 5th Ave., before hitting the business building.

Police said the driver, 28-year-old Juan. M. Arreola, of Traverse Court, Romeoville, had to be removed from the car and was taken to Delnor Hospital where he's in critical but stable condition. Areeola is facing charges of DUI (alcohol), improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt, according to the release.

The building's structure wasn't damaged, however, the crash impacted power for a bit due to the power box being hit but was restred by the St. Charles Electric Department.
