Man Upset By Giggling Shoots AK-47 At Highway: Cops
According to the state's attorney's office, the man's neighbors had guests who were outside at the time of the shooting.
KANE COUNTY, IL — A Gilberts man faces felony firearm charges stemming from accusations he shot an AK-47 14 times into the air Sunday morning toward the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90 and Route 72) when his neighbors reportedly had several visitors in their yard, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said, according to charging documents. According to the state's attorney's office, Gilbert police said 24-year-old Steven Mendoza reportedly fired the shots after getting upset when he heard giggling coming from outside a window at his home in the 100 block of Park Court.
The state's attorney's office said the intersection of I-90 and Route 72 is close to Mendoza’s home.
Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon approved a felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm against Mendoza.

Mendoza's bail was set at $10,000, with 10 percent to apply, Sunday by Kane County Associate Judge Linda Abrahamson, according to the state's attorney's office. If Mendoza posts bond, Judge Abrahamson ordered him to temporarily surrender all guns, officials added.
Mendoza's next court appearance is set for Wednesday at the Kane County Judicial Center.
