I-695, 1-95, White Marsh Lane Closures In February

Watch for nighttime lane closures this month in White Marsh.

Lane closures are expected to disrupt nighttime traffic in the White Marsh area this month.

Weather permitting, the closures are scheduled between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., each night and morning between Feb. 11 and Feb. 14, and between Feb. 18 and Feb. 21.

During those times, all lanes of westbound Interstate 695 (Outer Loop) at Interstate 95 (Exit 33) will be completely closed. The detour route will direct drivers to northbound I-95, to westbound Maryland Route 43 (Exit 67B, White Marsh Boulevard), to southbound I-95, to westbound I-695 (Exit 64), Maryland Transportation Authority officials announced.

The work is part of the ongoing I-95 Express Toll Lanes Project.

The White Marsh portion of the project carries a $142.6 million price tag and is expected to create 400 new jobs. The total project, which stretches from north of White Marsh along I-95 to south of the Interstate 895/Moravia Road interchange, will cost $1.03 billion and is expected to be finished by 2014, according to the MdTA.

The ultimate goal of the project is to provide additional highway lanes, where drivers can avoid some I-95 traffic back-ups. When complete, drivers may travel on existing lanes of I-95 at no additional cost, or may use express lanes by paying a toll.
