A Family Affair Children's Center

We have a full preschool program serving children ages two through five years old. We use creative curriculum which is a theme based, teacher created curriculum. We have a music teacher who comes once a week and we take several field trips a year. Our 2’s and 3’s Program In our 2’s and 3’s room we focus on helping children master self-care tasks such as toilet-training and using cups and forks as well as building social skills. We also lay the foundation for future academic learning with the basics such as the alphabet, colors, and basic math skills such as patterns and counting. Our 4’s and 5’s Program Our 4’s and 5’s program focuses on Kindergarten readiness. We cover all developmental areas including literacy, math concepts, science, social skills, music, and art all couched within a fun and interactive theme such as “Animals” or “The Beach.” Learning activities related to each of those topics are done throughout the week. Before and After School Care We provide before and after school care for children who attend Pine Grove or Harford Hills Elementary. We are open when schools are closed. We do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as: ○ Table games ○ Crafts ○ Legos ○ Outdoor play We also offer homework help, a morning and afternoon snack. Children are picked up and dropped off from the center by the BCPS bus system. Summer Camp We offer a school age summer camp for Kindergarten—5th graders. As promised, some local Cub Scouts have been Patched! On Monday night, I visited a crowd of very polite third-grade boys at St. Joseph Parish to talk a little bit about journalism. Special thanks to Assistant Den Leader Tim Maloney of Pack 746 for inviting me.  The highlights: <ul> <li>Not all news is on TV. </li> <li>If you want to write for a newspaper or website, learn to use correct grammar!</li> <li>If you want to make it in journalism, you'll probably have to start off by doing a few internships ... so don't be afraid to work for free for a little while. </li> <li>Crime reporting is important because it helps remind neighbors to lock their doors and to call police if something bad happens. </li> <li>One of the best ways to get ideas for news stories is just to look around. </li> </ul> It was so nice to meet you all!
