Perry Hall Cub Scouts Learn About Journalism

Here are a few of the things I told third-grade boys about journalism.

As promised, some local Cub Scouts have been Patched!

On Monday night, I visited a crowd of very polite third-grade boys at St. Joseph Parish to talk a little bit about journalism. Special thanks to Assistant Den Leader Tim Maloney of Pack 746 for inviting me.

  • Not all news is on TV.
  • If you want to write for a newspaper or website, learn to use correct grammar!
  • If you want to make it in journalism, you'll probably have to start off by doing a few internships ... so don't be afraid to work for free for a little while.
  • Crime reporting is important because it helps remind neighbors to lock their doors and to call police if something bad happens.
  • One of the best ways to get ideas for news stories is just to look around.

It was so nice to meet you all!
