Arlington Postpones Town Election, Declares State Of Emergency

The Select Board voted Monday to postpone the election two months due to coronavirus concerns.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Select Board on Monday declared a local state of emergency in Arlington and postponed the Town Election. The new election date will be either June 6 or June 13, both Saturdays. The Board will vote on a date at its March 30 meeting, and the Town Moderator will postpone the Town Meeting to start after the local election.

Town Meeting may only be delayed for increments of 30 days. To start the Town Meeting after the election, Town Moderator John Leone plans to call a 30-day delay on April 27, postponing it to May 27. On May 27, Leone will likely call another delay until enough time has passed after the Town Election.

The declaration of a local state of emergency in Arlington means the town will be eligible for reimbursement of crisis-related expenses.
