Malden 2025 Election: 1 New Face On The City Council
Michelle Luong joins two incumbents as the new trio of at-large city councilors.

MALDEN, MA — Incumbents held strong in two of the city's contested races in Tuesday's election. However one newcomer appears to have secured victory in the race for City Councilor At Large race, according to unofficial results.
Michelle Luong defeated incumbent Craig Spadafora and fellow challengers Mohammad Abu-Taha and Solomon Davidoff for the final of the three At-Large seats. Luong recevied the third-most votes, 2,970, behind incumbents Karen Colon Hayes and Carey McDonald.
Luong previously served a term on the School Committee from 2019 to 2021, and will now gear up for her first term on the City Council.

Dawn Macklin earned her third consecutive term as the Ward 4 representative of the School Committee, defeating challenger Abeer Annab by a total of 288 to 200 respectively.
The 60-year-old said funding is the district's biggest challenge heading into the next year.

"Malden Public Schools have come a long way but there is still so much more work to do to ensure Massachusetts’ most diverse public school system has equitable, fair access and resources for all of our student learners. We need to meet the individual need of each child," Macklin said.
Ward 6 City Council saw incumbent Stephen Winslow defeat challenger Jerry Leone by a tally of 567 votes to 315.
Winslow has served on the City Council since 2018. Before that, he also spent multiple terms on the School Committee.
