Power Restored After Malden Outage

Lights came back on in Malden Tuesday afternoon after an earlier power outage, officials said.

MALDEN, MA — Lights came back on in Malden Tuesday afternoon after an initial outage late Tuesday morning, according to city officials.

The power disruption hit around 11:50 a.m., the city said, impacting residents living off Main Street, Cross Street, Ferry Street, Harvard Street, Boylston Street, Belmont Street, Ashland Street, James Street, Eastern Avenue and Essex Street.

National Grid initially reported more than 550 energy customers in Malden impacted by this outage as of 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A subsequent update to National Grid's outage map no longer showed the main outage, with only scattered disruptions seen impacting a handful of residents south of the Malden Center area around 1 p.m.

All power had been restored as of 1:15 p.m., according to National Grid and the Malden Mayor's Office.

Officials on Tuesday did not share a cause for this outage.

National Grid, likewise, reported a separate outage in Medford on Tuesday impacting close to 680 residents near the Medford/Arlington line. That outage was ongoing as of 1:15 p.m.
