Medford Mayor Michael McGylnn bid adieu to the hundreds gathered at City Hall Sunday for his last “State of the City” address. McGlynn is retiring after 28 years in office.
McGylnn, 62, was elected to serve 14 straight terms. He made it a point to thank all the residents who supported him over the years in what was a prideful and patriotic ceremony.

“The road has been a very enjoyable one, steeped in hard work, tough decisions, and on occasion, a bit of controversy. But, the results have always been rewarding. We have forged partnerships with employees, volunteers, non profits, elected officials, the business community and the residents of our great city,” McGlynn said.
Over the course of McGlynn’s time in office, he and his staff accomplished many things, all of which improved Medford in many ways.

Some of the accomplishments include the Rivers Edge development in Wellington, the transformation of Station Landing, the remediation of the old marsh site near Hormel Stadium, and the improvement of Medford Square, among many other wonderful achievements.
“We created jobs, housing opportunities, and increased tax revenues dramatically,” McGlynn said.
McGlynn plans to spend more time with his children and grandchildren after announcing his retirement in April.
“I love this job as much today as I did the day I was first sworn in. I loved all the veteran ceremonies, parades, community days, carnivals, senior picnics, the Boston Pops, the Mount Rushmore flag, the Black Hawk helicopter, the 105 millimeter Howitizers, and even the fireworks, McGlynn said. “But not as much as I love all of you. It has been a blast! Thank you all very much!”
Stephanie Muccini Burke was elected as Medford’s new Mayor back in November.
