December Arts and Cultural Events in Medford

Arts Collaborative Medford, Great American Beer Hall lead the way

Arts Collaborative Medford and the Great American Beer Hall, two Mystic Avenue newcomers to the Medford arts and culture scene in 2024, have firmly established themselves as go-to venues as the year concludes.

In December alone, ACM is presenting a Poetry and Song Open Mic event (Dec. 5), a Wet Felting Workshop (Dec. 11-12), Make + Mingle Night (Dec. 17), and its first Crochet + Cinema Night (Dec. 19), as well as hosting the ArtsMedford Winter Holiday Fair (Dec. 7), Down By Riverside’s huge Blizzard of Blues Concert (Dec. 12), a Paint Night for Palestine (Dec. 13), and a pop-up exhibit to celebrate the artists to be featured in The Mystic Project’s 2025 “Moments in Medford” calendar (Dec. 15).

Meanwhile, the Great American Beer Hall will present 13 events with live music during the month, include the first “Santa Con on the Mystic,” a pub crawl that also will include Deep Cuts Brewery, The Ford Tavern, and Raso’s Bar and Grille. Scheduled performers at GABH include Dan Lyons (Dec. 5), Nikki and the Barn Boys (Dec. 6), The Rippers (Dec. 7), Heartland Radio (Dec. 8), The Mockingbirds (Dec. 11), The One Night Stands (Dec. 14), Corey Rieman and The Dilemma Band (Dec. 19), The Broken Heels (Dec. 20), Freddy and the Freeloaders (Dec. 21), and Neon Lighthouse (Dec. 26).

+ The Medford Historical Society & Museum presents "Deep Time: The Early Archaeology of Medford and Greater Boston," a Dec. 3 program at the library with Suanna Crowley, a geoarchaeologist and researcher from Medford.

+ Deep Cuts’ schedule includes the two-night Snowgaze Fest, a shoegaze/dream pop celebration with eight bands ((Dec. 13-14); the 30th anniversary show for emo band Piebald (Dec. 15); live psychic readings by psychic-medium Karen Kelly (Dec. 5); plus workshops on ceramic stein painting (Dec. 3) and holiday candle crafting (Dec. 10).

+ The Tufts Music Department presents 10 free concerts, plus a Granoff Colloquium program, “The Rounder Records Story,” with co-founder Bill Nowlin (Dec. 9).

+ Chevalier Theatre closes out a busy year with 12 events, including two showings of the timeless classic “Home Alone” followed by a moderated interview and audience Q&A with the film’s star Macaulay Culkin (Dec. 15).

+ Tufts Art Galleries offers a Community Crocheting Workshop on Dec. 8, which also is the closing day for the heralded fall exhibition “Tomashi Jackson: Across the Universe.”
