Driver Seriously Injured In Crash On I-93 In Medford

A preliminary investigation indicates that the car veered to the right and struck the guardrail, police said.

MEDFORD, MA — A driver is facing life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash that shut down part of I-93 in Medford Friday morning, reported WCVB.

The crash took place at 3:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway at the Roosevelt Circle exit. Both sides of I-93 were shut down for several hours.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the car veered to the right and struck the guardrail, police said. The driver, a 41-year-old Rockland man, was extricated from the vehicle by Medford Firefighters and taken to Mass General Hospital.

Initially, a medical helicopter responded to the scene, but the driver was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

Officials said high speed is being examined as a possible contributing factor in the crash.
