Medford 2022 Parking Permits Expire Soon, 2023 Permits Available

2023 parking permits will take effect on Jan. 1.

MEDFORD, MA — Medford residents needing a 2023 parking permit can still get one before the new year via a variety of city options, as noted in an announcement from Medford officials earlier this month.

A number of streets throughout Medford are considered permit parking streets. Annual parking permits for these areas must be renewed by Jan. 1, officials said.

Resident parking permits cost $10, though there is an exception for those ages 65 and older, who can get a parking permit for free.

Individuals looking to obtain a permit will need to provide photo ID and their vehicle registration.

Eligible for free residential permit parking, Medford seniors can separately buy a $25 annual city-wide permit that allows parking at metered spots and city lots without having to pay the meter. Such permits also need to be renewed by Jan. 1.

Resident parking permits come with two free visitor passes, which must be picked up in person, as noted in the city’s recent parking announcement. Those who don’t buy a resident permit can buy up to two visitor passes for $5 each.

Individuals needing more information on how to buy a parking permit can contact the Medford parking department at (781) 393-2463 or visit the link here.

Medford last year opted against extending its contract with parking vendor ParkMedford beyond 2021, instead bringing parking enforcement operations in house for 2022.

The city's new parking department launched earlier this year. It announced in March that it would begin full parking enforcement on March 28 after initially issuing warnings to motorists found violating parking rules.

Officials later announced a program where residents could buy pro-rated parking permits valid through the end of 2022 beginning on July 1. Those permits are set to expire on Dec. 31.
