Medford Elementary School Closing For Second Straight Day Due To Ongoing Illness Outbreak
Local health professionals believe the sickness affecting hundreds of students is Norovirus.
MEDFORD, MA — Roberts Elementary School is shutting down for a second straight day due to an ongoing outbreak of suspected Norovirus.
The school at 35 Court St. had more than 130 absences on Wednesday, Dec. 10 due to children reporting stomach illness symptoms. Interim Superintendent of Schools Suzanne Galusi and Principal Michelle Crowell then announced their decision to close the doors on Thursday, and they are now doing the same thing on Friday, Dec. 12.
A professional company performed a deep cleaning of the building on Thursday. According to the school, the widespread illness is not related to the school itself or any kitchen equipment.
School leadership is currently developing a plan to make up the cancelled day in the future.
