Medford Fifth-Graders Win Divisional Basketball Championship

The fifth grade boys' basketball team took the Metrowest Basketball League Div. 7 title on Saturday.

MEDFORD, MA — The Medford fifth grade boys' basketball team beat Bridgewater to take home the Metrowest Basketball League Division 7 title on Saturday.

The team, led by coaches Pat Markwarth and Mike Casey, consisted of Liam Casey, Matt Markwarth, Keith Wilson, Mike Stamatakis, Jerry Bridges, Kaleb Jackson, Mabray Andrews, Nolan Vieira, Dominic Seaver, Nick Macedo and Bobby Macedo.

Medford started the tournament ranked fourth in the North bracket, beating fifth-seed Winchester 19-12 in the first round. It then went up against top-ranked Watertown in the second round, winning 35-31.

In the finals of the North bracket, the boys faced Northboro, who they had beaten in a double overtime game two weeks earlier, and came out on top by a score of 33-25.

The championship game was played at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton on Saturday, March 12. Medford squared off against the South bracket champion, Bridgewater, winning by a score of 33-21.
