Medford Police Receive Cummings Grant For Community Engagement

The Medford Police Department was awarded $105,000 over a period of three years which will go toward community engagement programs.

MEDFORD, MA – The Medford Police Department was one of 150 local nonprofits to receive a grant with the Cummings Foundation’s $30 Million Grant Program.

The Medford Police Department was selected from nearly 300 applicants, and was awarded $105,000 over a period of three years which will go toward community engagement programs.

“The philosophy of the Medford Police Department is ‘Quality Policing Through Community Engagement’ and we are thrilled to receive this grant to not only further our existing community engagement programs, but to develop new ones in the future,” Chief Jack Buckley said in a news release. “These programs are critical to building strong relationships between law enforcement and the community we serve. By working together, we can ensure that our neighborhoods are safer for all of our residents.”

The Medford Police Department said they plan to use the grant funding to expand on their current community engagement activities, such as National Night Out, Community Inclusion Day, Holiday Toy Drive and Senior Safety.

The department also hopes to create new programs specific to the community’s youth population, in order to foster positive relationships between the police department and the community, enhance trust, and promote public safety.

The Cummings $30 Million Grant Program supports non-profit organizations that are based in and primarily serve Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties in Massachusetts. The Cummings Foundation has donated $450 million to Greater Boston non-profits to date.
