Nancy Pelosi In Massachusetts: Cuts To Child Education 'Dumb'
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Tufts University to advocate for affordable child care.

MEDFORD, MA — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Massachusetts Friday morning to advocate for affordable child care. Pelosi attended a Tufts University forum with fellow Democratic congresswomen Ayanna Pressley, Katherine Clark and Lori Trahan, where she discussed the importance of building a strong foundation for future generations.
"When people ask me what are the three most important issues facing Congress, I always say the same thing," Pelosi said. "Our children, our children, our children."
Pelosi slammed any proposed cuts to early childhood education programs. Massachusetts has some of the highest child-care costs in the country.

"When they say to us that they have to cut early childhood education or freeze Pell Grants so they can reduce the deficit ... it is one of the dumbest suggestions they could make because nothing brings more money to the Treasury than investment in education," Pelosi said.
She added that one of the greatest investments the country can make is "lifetime learning for our workers."

Pelosi recounted a recent discussion with President Trump in which she stressed funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). She said she believes the country is "delinquent" in meeting its federal responsibilities for children with disabilities.
