MEDFORD, MA — Tributes continued pouring in Wednesday to Andrew Bohm, the Tufts University professor who died Monday after he was struck while riding his bicycle in Newton.

The UPS driver, who is also a 57-year-old from Newton, remained at the scene to speak with investigators. The DA's office did not identify the driver and did not immediately announce any charges related to the incident.

At Tufts, Bohm was an associate professor of developmental, molecular and chemical biology and, in recent years, a postdoctoral officer. According to his biography, Bohm had been associated with the university since 1998.

"Dr. Bohm was a beacon of guidance and support for the postdoc community for the past five years," the school said in a statement. "From hosting coffee hours to kayaking on the Charles River, he built a community where postdocs felt valued, supported and empowered to thrive both academically and personally. He served with an open mind, a generous heart and a genuine dedication to the postdoc community and the university."

Bohm is survived by his wife Celia and two adult children, according to the university.

Others in the Tufts community offered their thoughts about Bohm's passing.

"How jolting and saddening to learn of Andrew's fatal accident. So tragic, so sudden, so unexpected, unexplainable," Dr. David Stoller, professor emeritus in the Tufts University School of Medicine, wrote in a tribute page on the Tufts website.

Stoller continued: "He was always helpful and positive and enthusiastic, adding a smile to all these images; he was full of life, even in the fact that he was cycling home. What a loss for our community."

Tufts University announced that a memorial service for Bohm is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home in Wellesley Hills, 56 Washington St. (Rt. 16). All are welcome, according to the university.
