Breakheart in December

Breakheart, on a cold and sunny winter’s day.

The temperature reads 36 but the wind
chill makes it feel like 21 degrees.

The slim bare grey birch wave in the
wind; reaching out their naked branches and twigs towards the tall green trees
and cloudless blue sky.

The branches reach high aiming for
the heavens, and towards a long cold winter to come.

Red and rusted leaves still cling to low ornamental trees;
and the bronze leaves of the oak trees will outlast the
weather to fall in the spring, and make place for the green
replacement of the season.

The pine trees wave their branches to frenzy to the sound
of a hard rock music I am not familiar with.

It is the dance of the times and a
lone hawk flies overhead to join in the dance.

It is December at Breakheart on a nice sunny day.
