A day to be Thankful for

by Shirley Rabb

After a night of soft rain the lawn
and beach are wet. The leaves of the burning bush are moist with remaining
drops of rain. The bush is both yellow and red and they are the only leaves of
color left for now.

The Birch tree is bare of leaves but,
the branches are like spider webs with a background of green pines and blue
sky.

The Beech trees across the lake stand
straight and naked of their leaves; and the tall evergreens seem to be their
background of protection to the upcoming winter season.

The chickadees are here at the
feeders, and the nuthatch and titmouse have been regular visitors also.

The temperature is 37 degrees but the
sun is bright in the sky and before the day ends it will rise to 45 degrees.

It is calm; there is no sound of
whispering wind, since the leaves of the green trees hang still.

The white of the Birch trees do add a
bit of color, but except for the spider like branches, they also seem frozen in
time.

Only the birds move about; and they are lovely
to watch in flight.

This will be a calm and peaceful day;
a day to read and walk and enjoy the view.

It will be a day to recall, and remember, and
to be thankful for.
