The Holidays Arrive In Melrose Friday With Weekend-long Celebration

The Home for the Holidays weekend is put forth by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce.

MELROSE, MA — Santa Claus is arriving in downtown Melrose Friday night to kick off a weekend of holiday festivities.

The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Home for the Holidays celebration begins on the City Hall lawn on 562 Main St. at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 where Mayor Jen Grigoraitis will lead the lighting of the Christmas tree before attendees will walk to the nearby YMCA to await Santa’s arrival on top of a fire engine at 6:30 p.m., while he is led in during a performance by the Melrose High School Drummers.

The festivities resume at 10 a.m. Saturday with holiday trolleys that will take residents to the various shopping districts in the city. After the trees along Main Street are lit, Santa will appear at the Knights of Columbus on 23 West Foster St. for photo opportunities, hot chocolate, and holiday music. Meanwhile, Temple Beth Shalom on 21 East Foster St. will be offering latkes, sufganiyot, and beverages.

Santa is returning early Sunday morning at Rising Eagle Publick House on 505 Main St. for a brunch event at 11 a.m. The weekend will conclude with the Children’s Holiday Party at Mount Hood Golf Course on 100 Slayton Road between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
