The colors are hanging on and Halloween is over, and we move forward to holiday times.
Our first trip out on the 11th was to the Saugus Senior Center to see again Sheryl Faye.
At this performance Sheryl became Elinor Roosevelt for 60 minutes. Many of us have see Sheryl perform all of her eleven Historical Women; and each time we have been amazed at her work.

She sets the stage herself, moving clothes changes where she can reach them never stopping her stories as she goes along. She sets the screen up and the music and stories that need to accompany her on her journey of the particular person she is portraying.
We had lunch at the center before the show and cinnamon donuts and cider after the show.

It made for a lovely afternoon.

On the 8th. a few of us went to the movies to see Sarah's Oil at the Woburn theater.
This movie was based on the true story of Sarah Rector.
In the early 1900s, young Sarah Rector believes there's oil beneath the barren land she's allotted in Indian Territory. As greedy sharks close in, Sarah turns to family, friends, and some Texas
wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming one of the first female African American millionaires.
Finally a good adult movie that we really enjoyed.
Dinner was at one of our favorites....Liberty Belle right here in Melrose.
On the 9th. two of us drove to New Hampshire to visit and have lunch with one of our hatters that doesn't get down to often.

An outstanding lunch at The Lobster Boat in Litchfield New Hampshire. Lobster tails, scallops, shrimp, baked potato all after delicious clam chowder.
We Red Hatters really know how to enjoy ourselves; just eating out for lunch.
The purple hat means that it is the month of my birthday. This is a Red Hat custom to swap hats and red outfits on a members birthday, instead of the traditional red hats and purple outfits.
If you see a group of Red Hatters and someone is wearing a purple hat just go over and wish her a happy birthday.
November 13th and we landed locally at the Melrose Senior Center to listen to Lynda D'Amour.

I spent a few minutes to talk to Lynda, Joe and his wife Pamela before the performance.
Lynda D'Amour has been Nominated 2012 & 2013 for an award for Best Female Vocalist, she has been singing professionally since the age of 19. Her work has been showcased at many of NE/Boston’s major venues such as Scullers Jazz Club, North Shore Music Theater, Jazz Club, the Lyric Stage as well as Don't Tell Mama & the Metropolitan Room in NYC In any given minute you might hear a hint of jazz, pop, rock, R&B, or show tune. Lynda works with piano accompanist as well as larger ensembles (trio, quartet, etc.) according to the needs of the client.
This was a Sammy Davis Jr. tribute evening.
Lynda spoke of Sammy Davis Jr. like a long time fan of his. She gave us a bit of the history of his life as she sang many of his songs with a voice loud and clear and soothing.
Her accompanist this evening was Joe Mulholland. Joe is professor of the Harmony Department at Berklee College of Music. He also performs with his trio 100 nights per year at the Top Of the Hub, an upscale jazz venue in Boston. Joe has been a Melrose resident for 30 years, he has 4 CDs of original music and has 3 theory text-books on music.
They made a great combination for this show.

There were snacks and soft drinks and it was a wonderful and memorable evening; and right here at our own Senior Center.
November 14th. and back to the Saugus Senior Center. (Are we getting old).
This afternoon we had lunch for $2.00...Tuna or roast beef sandwich, sweet potato cup, regular small salad and mixed bean salad. Fruit cup and muffins for dessert.
The show was" Nun of This & Nun of That, Once Again." performed by the Delvena Theater Company. The cast of two powerful and funny Nuns were played by Fran Baron and Lynne Moulton.
This was a light-hearted comedy that was the celebration of the 55th Class Reunion of St. Bartholomew's Parochial School. The "sisters" are excited to meet with their former students. The audience members, of course, are the reunion attendees.

It was fun with the "nuns" asking questions and getting answers from members that remembered their days in a Parochial school many years ago.

There were sing-a-longs with The Star Spangled Banner, Here I Am Lord , and Let There Be Peace on Earth.
It was a fun filled show and.....there was a table of delicious pastry for all after the show.
