Red Hatters for September 2025

by Shirley Rabb

It's time to take the Fall flowers out of the box and fill the basket on the porch for the new season.

A cool and refreshing start for the upcoming season...Lets see if we can have some fun.

Over the past 24 years we have been a group. We have had many members ,and have lost many members. New members have come to replace our old friends and we kept on going.

There have been Plays, theater, ball games, lunches and parties. There have museums no one else ever heard off and we have had fun.

It seems that it might be time to consider taking off our hats.

I use the word consider because those of us still functioning do not want to pack away our purple outfits and Red Hats. We want to continue doing things, perhaps more locally, but we do not want to stop.

Over the years we have done outings almost every week of each month and we have had fun.

We have had friends old and new that made us all happy; made us Red Hatters!

Our trips will be limited...but we hope to continue ...in a limited way.

This month one member is taking a trip with a tour group out west to see the canyons and mountains.

Another member is just returning from a long trip visiting family and friends in New York.

Kids and Grand-kids are priority now with there ball games, and dance lessons, and wanting to spend time with their Grandma.

There was a day free for three of us so..What the Heck...we went to lunch.

We chose Belle Isle in Winthrop where the seafood is always great. ( a cash only restaurant )

We sat inside because of the warning sign on the door; but we did go out with our take home bags for picture taking after lunch.

The view is of sailboats of many sizes. The sky was sunny/cloudy and comfortable; planes heading for Logan every few minutes and the sea gulls on the rim of the patio; and it was a great Red Hat day. So I guess we will still keep our hats close at hand.

Again only three of us went to the Spellman Postal Museum in Weston. We had been to the museum many years ago; but today we went to see Diane Edgecomb turn us in children again.

We had time to visit the museum that displays stamps from all countries of the world. Sport stamps, political stamps, animals, and flowers.

A wonderful display to visit for young and old. A stamp book of history to see and learn.

One of the most versatile voices in storytelling today, Diane’s startling adaptations of traditional tales arch from her dynamic style of telling, in which she fully embodies the characters and
scenes, bringing each moment alive.
Publisher’s Weekly called Diane, “…a virtuoso of the spoken word…an entire cast rolled into
one!” Whether exploring folktales, ancient myths, or original stories .

She entertained us with stories of myths of fairies, and Snow White and bears. She had us , and children, in the audience with parents, laughing as we followed her instruction to join in.

It was back to childhood with out loud laughter.

It was a happy warm fall day and we did feel young again.

Our late afternoon lunch/early dinner was at the Chateau in Woburn. Food was, (and will be later) excellent and the service equally as good.

This is our September 2025 submission . We are looking forward to keeping our hats on and moving forward , slower perhaps, but not stopping.

Please continue to join us.
