After a very hot and humid start to August 2025 I remember August 2021
The temperature is 51 degrees and nothing is moving except the birds.
The sky is grey, waiting for a darker black cloud to bring the predicted rain.

The lake is still, almost frozen, with the reflecting images of the changing colors of the trees, and sandy hill.

And now a family of loons move swiftly to the shore, and back again to the middle of the lake, leaving a wake behind them to add ripples to the still water. They move as if driven by a motor as they glide in silence eastward to a waiting sunrise that is not likely to be visible for many hours.
There is a low mist now rising from the lake and it moves slowly eastward also, and then it is gone.
The silence is overwhelming and the music I hear comes from memories of years past.
It will be a morning of peaceful silence; a time to absorb the beauty that has been painted for me by a hand much greater than mine.
