Automaker to Test Self-Parking Cars in Somerville
Mayor Joseph Curtatone will allow Audi to test their "intelligent" car on the city's streets.

Mayor Joseph Curtatone has signed an agreement with Audi, allowing them to use Somerville as a test city for their self-parking, “intelligent” car.
According to the Boston Business Journal, the German car manufacturer and Somerville will create “an urban strategy” to sync the self-parking vehicles with city traffic lights.

By unveiling the program, Audi and Somerville hope to develop a way to reduce the “space requirement” of cars and “increase the speed of traffic flow.”
The self-parking technology will be tested out at Somerville’s Assembly Square project. According to Audi, the new technology could save Assembly Row up to “$100 million.”

“The intelligent car can unfold its enormous potential only in an intelligent city,” said Rupert Stadler, CEO of Audi, in a statement.
