SOMERVILLE, MA — The MBTA announced Wednesday that a planned closure to allow for repair work on the Squires Bridge will be postponed until September.

The 42-day closure was scheduled to take place from July 18 to Aug. 18 between Lechmere and Union Square Station. According to transit officials, crews inspected the bridge over the weekend and decided to delay repairs so the closure does not occur at the same time as the Sumner Tunnel closure.

The Squires Bridge crosses over tracks near Union Square Station in Somerville, so repairs are not necessary on the Green Line itself.
