SOMERVILLE, MA — Changes to two MBTA bus routes in the Somerville area were implemented Sunday as part of the first phase of the Authority’s Bus Network Redesign project, according to the Authority.

Routes 109 and 86, which combined travel from Sullivan Square through Brighton, have both been upgraded to “frequent” bus routes. Buses are now slated to arrive at any given stop within 15 minutes or less of each other between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Route 109 was extended from Sullivan Square to Harvard Station, replacing part of Route 86’s previous course. Riders can transfer from one route to the other at Harvard Station. The project has five phases in total and is currently scheduled to be completed by 2029.
